There is increasing awareness of the risk of urinary incontinence tape or mesh erosion. This is a recognised complication, but any decision about treatment should balance the severity of the urinary symptoms, the available options, the anticipated chance of improvement and the potential complications.

No treatment is entirely free of risk. Careful patient selection, clear advice and properly informed consent are therefore essential.

When tape erosion occurs, endoscopic laser removal may be considered in selected patients as an alternative to traditional open surgery.
